How to Choose an MSI Gaming Laptop
MSI gaming lines explained
MSI’s Thin and Katana lines offer value and mainstream gaming, the Stealth series is slim and premium with top-tier displays, and the Creator line targets content creators who also game. Choose Thin or Katana for value, Stealth for a premium portable, or Creator for a dual-purpose machine.
Display: refresh rate and panel
MSI laptops range from fast 144Hz FHD panels on the Thin 15 and Katana GF66 to sharp 165Hz QHD+ on the Katana 15 HX and stunning 240Hz QHD+ OLED on the Stealth A16. A higher refresh rate feels smoother, while OLED and QHD give sharper, more vivid visuals. Match the panel to your priorities.
Graphics and performance
Match the graphics to your games. Value models like the Thin 15 handle 1080p well, the Katana 15 HX steps up to high-refresh QHD, and the Stealth A16 drives demanding titles at high settings. Buy for the resolution and frame rates you want.
Portability vs screen size
MSI gaming laptops range from slim 15-16 inch Stealth and Thin models to large 17.3-inch Creator machines. Slimmer models are easier to carry, while larger ones offer a more immersive display and more room at the cost of weight. Balance portability against screen size.
Gaming vs creation
If you only game, the Thin, Katana, and Stealth lines are ideal, but if you also edit video or create content, the Creator models add color-focused displays and workstation features. Decide whether you need a pure gaming machine or a dual-purpose gaming-and-creation laptop.
